Job Description:
The National Account Manager with Focus on the 2nd Tier and Closeout Business is responsible for managing the product lifecycle after an item has peaked in sales. Primary focus for The National Account Manager will be focused on working with our analysts and owning all identified product with slow sales and moving these items out of domestic inventory. Working directly with our National and Specialty teams for opportunity based programs and then to the 2nd Tier Retailers and Closeout Companies. This person will also be responsible for creating relationships with donation facilities as an alternative option for final movement of goods. Creating and executing strategic plans for existing account program growth as well as finding, securing and growing into new opportunity-based accounts. We’re seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of National Chain Store sales account manager experience, preferably in the 2nd tier and closeout space and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
The position will report directly to the Executive Director of Sales and will involve implementing sales plans to maximize overall corporate sales and inventory goals. This individual should show initiative and can develop sales programs for assigned Accounts through creative and innovative planning.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Working directly with internal analysts to identify slower moving inventory.
- Implement a new SOP program to ensure the movement of these products through appropriate channels resulting in sales and/or inventory removal.
- Collaborating directly with National Sales Account Managers and Specialty Sales Account Managers to offer strategic promotions to move inventory with the highest profit margins.
- Direct responsibility for identifying, cultivating, growing and managing key account programs in 2nd tier and closeout sales channels in the United States.
- Identify and establish relationships with local/national charities, hospitals, schools and more as donation opportunities for certain inventories.
- Create and implement short/medium/long-term account strategies in conjunction with management and corporate objectives.
- Identify buyer influences, recommended trends & product needs, converted to our categories.
- Proactive approach to developing DTR and OEM opportunities with all accounts.
- Establishing and maintaining deep relationships at each Key Account, including but not limited to buying planning/replenishment, assistant buyers, merchandising, and management.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of specific account compliance requirements and the ability to communicate to appropriate departments, while “quarterbacking” to consummate sale.
- Knowledge of company’s ERP system, ability to manage account data maintaining accurate data, resulting in timely, retailer compliant shipments and invoicing. Consistent updated log of all account activities, progress and results vs budgets.
- Interfacing with finance to ensure receivables are paid accurately and on-time.
- Air travel/overnight travel required.
- Participate as requested for internal line reviews with product development and senior management.
- Collaborate with internal departments outside of sales when required.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years in mid / mass account sales. Experience within the consumer product industry necessary; toy industry and/or strong mission driven brand experience preferred.
